It is an honour and a great pleasure for us to host the annual meeting of the EC2E2N and ECTNA in 2010. The ENSCM, a faithful member from the start, has actively taken part in the thematic network activities particularly in the fields of Organic and Analytical Chemistry as well as Chemistry and Environment for which it organised a workshop.
The important research collaborations between the ENSCM and the CEA (Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) led us to propose the role of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the field of nuclear energy as one of the meeting conference themes, in the hope that it might lead to new avenues to be explored in the fields of research and teaching.
The prominence of Chemistry in Montpellier – one of the oldest European universities – dates back to the Middle Ages with the strong historic influence of its Faculty of Medicine which was attracting students from the different European countries as early as the beginning of the 13th Century.
Today, this tradition remains. Montpellier is a lively university town with more than 11,000 international students, out of a total of about 65,000 coming from all parts of the world. The ENSCM itself enrols about 15% of international students (master and PhD) in the framework of its bi-lateral agreements with foreign partner universities.
Last but not least, Montpellier is a Mediterranean town where it is very nice to live and work.
We do hope that you will be very numerous to joins us in April and we are confident that your work here will be particularly fruitful.
We are looking forward to receiving you on April 14-17, 2010.
Joël Moreau
Directeur de l’ENSCM
